Ogden, Utah July 2008

Dear Painters,

I hope everyone’s summer is getting off to a good start. I can’t believe it is July already. This month we should take time to reflect on what a great nation we live in even though everything is going up in price; gas, food, and the overall cost of living, remember we are still a free nation.

This month we will be doing our “Treasure Boxes” for the Shriners Hospital for Children. I would like to ask everyone that possibly can to please attend and help get our 40 boxes painted. Those of you who signed up and those who took boxes home please come and join us for a fun relaxing day of painting, July 12th at 10:00 a.m. And don't forget to bring your tastest snacks.

On August 9th at 10:00 a.m. Kristin Birkelund will be teaching her “Vegetable Basket Box”. You won’t want to miss this one. Kristin is an excellent teacher and fun to paint with. You will need to get singed up and pay for the class by July 19th so we can order the unique triangular bentwood boxes.

Nancy Baur will be teaching her seminar on “Decoy Painting” September 12th and 13th. We will have a sign up sheet available at our next meeting.

The Weber County Fair is August 6th through the 9th. I would like to see more items entered at the Fair. Also, there are other County Fairs are coming; Box Elder, Davis, etc. Have you ever entered something? Well, it is a lot of fun and a great way to promote decorative painting and share with the public exactly what we do as a Chapter. Think about it.

I want to thank each of you for making my job this year such an enjoyable experience. You are a great group of ladies and fantastic to work with.

Happy 4th of July and happy painting. Until next month.

        Nancy

Chapter Minutes

June 14th 2008

Attending:

     President - Nancy Coley
     Web/Newletter - Terry Pulver
     Juanita Denton - Teacher

     Cathy Jensen
     Glenda Mitchell
     Mickey Hutchinson

Nancy called the business meeting to order at 10:15 am.

The Chapter has purchased a number of boxes for the members to paint for the Treasure Box Program. Our July monthly paint-in will be set aside to paint the boxes. Glenda will be coordinator. There are still boxes available.

Nancy told us that Bobbie Takashima will be our fall seminar teacher for 2009. The scheduled dates are Sept 10th-12th 2009. The board is still working on a spring 2009 teacher.

We also talked about the possibility of having a Christmas booth at the Ogden Train Station. Items under $20 usually sell well. Juanita told us how she uses old silver plate as surfaces and explained how she preps the surface so that the etching shows. She said she would e-mail us the instructions so we can post it on the newsletter.

Cathy Jensen has all the teachers lined up for the senior Center for the remainder of 2008 and she thanks everyone who volunteered.

Time was then turned over to Juanita for the watercolor Apple and Lemon project.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 pm till our Treasure Box Work Project July 12th, 2008, at 10:00 am.
