Ogden, Utah, April 2009 Painters, Here we are; at our rain and fool’s day month. I hope all of y’all are feeling well now that summer is just around the corner. We had a wonderful seminar last month. Ronnie Bringle is a delightful lady. Her method of painting is definitely different than what we are used to; but it seems a bit easier and more fun in some ways. I hope those who attended will, indeed, continue using this method; it can easily be combined with stroke work with which y’all are more familiar. The Chapter Board often chooses classes for their educational value rather than for the project itself. When considering signing up for a class, you might want to check this property of the class. You don’t have to buy the specified surface but can still learn something new. And - - variety is the spice of life. Also in regards to the seminar, Mickey’s chicken enchiladas were delicious as well as her chicken noodle soup and Nancy’s cream of broccoli soup. I really appreciate everyone’s help with our meals and snacks. Those at the seminar were able to catch up on news with Cathy Jensen, who came on Tuesday to do kitchen clean up which allowed the painters to continue painting. You ladies are great! This month we will be doing Hazel’s tassel; the design, "Lilacs for Mother", was designed specifically for our Chapter. Although it is simply pretty; you may put any design on the tassel top. You will need to do as much as possible on the top before the class as the work with the yarn will take much of the class time. Although our August paint-in is a few months off, we need to make some decisions now. JoLynn Johnson will be teaching her brush tote box. See pictures below. Anyone who wants to order a box for the surface must let me know right away so they can be made or ordered. I am sending a separate email out regarding brush tote boxes. See you soon. Becky called the meeting to order at 9:05am and welcomed everyone to the Ronnie Bringle Seminar.
She then showed everyone the "Lilacs for Mother" tassel that Hazel Rimmasch will be teaching in April.
Hazel designed this one just for our Chapter, keeping it simple so that more time can be spent
on making the tassel itself. She doesn't mind if you paint your own design or use your own color
scheme. A number of the ladies at SLC did just that. Lisa Peck had her completed tassel and showed
it to everyone.
Tirzal Probasco will be teaching the Chapter in May. She brought two of her painted suitcases for
everyone to see. Almost any smaller sized suitcase you have or can find at the thrift stores will
work. Tirzah has a number of patterns and you can use any colors you want.
JoLynn Johnson will be teaching the Chapter in August. She brought two projects for the members
to choose from. One was the painted brush box and the other a tin Christmas bell. Becky asked that
the members let her know which they preferred. If the brush box is chosen, we will see if we can
have wooden ones like JoLynn's made, or clear acrylic ones can be purchased. Becky saw the latter
at the Las Vegas trade show. If 6 or more people are interested, we can purchase them for about
$35. We will put the information on the web about the acrylic ones and get a price for the wooden
ones.
Our 1st VP Glenda Mitchell said that she has had great response from a number of vendors with seminar
gifts and raffle items. Lady Bug sent 48 pattern books, Calico Goose - 26 patterns, Walnut Hollow -
small wooden shelves, Royal Brush - brush sets, Ogden Blue - glass paint sets. Maureen McNaughton,
Priscilla Hauser and Dorothy Dent all gave us books and patterns. Chroma provided the paints for
the seminar. We have noted the 2009 Chapter supports on our web site link page. Glenda said that
she still can use raffle items and asked members to bring items once in a while.
Becky then turned the time over to Nancy Coley who is the Seminar Chairwoman. Nancy introduced
Ronnie Bringle to the members. Ronnie has been to Utah before. She taught a couple of times at
the Logan Painter's Conference. Nancy mentioned that we will be taking Ronnie out to dinner the
next two nights. Everyone is invited. There are signup cards on the front table.
Below are some pictures from the two days of our Ronnie Bringle seminar. Those of you who could
not make it really missed a fun time, a great teacher, and a neat new painting technique.
