Ogden, Utah April 2008 Dear Ladies, Happy Spring everyone. With all of the snow and sprinkles of rain things are staring to get green outside. It lifts my spirits to see tulips and daffodils coming up all over. I can’t decide whether to paint or go outside and start cleaning up my yard. Guess I will paint. I want to thank Carol Easley for teaching her beautiful card box. I think everyone just about finished painting their boxes. It was a fun and relaxing day. Heidi will be here the 17th thru 19th of this month. Those of you who still owe a balance on wood or the class fee need to get paid up before class or picking up the wood. Tirzah says you can starting picking up the wood April 1st and that is no April fools joke! The sign ups for this class is great. We have a winner on our Logo Contest. Tirzah Probasco won one day free at our Nancy Baur Seminar in September. Juanita Denton was the judge, thanks Juanita. On May 17, Eileen Barnard will teaching a Cornucopia Lid. The sign up sheet will be at the April Seminar. We need to know how may metal Cornucopias to order, so if you plan on taking this class, please sign up early. Please note that this is the third Saturday rather than our normal second Saturday. I appreciate all of you. This is a great group. Keep painting. Nancy |

Heidi England Seminar: Emperor and Nightingale Chest
April Heidi England Seminar
Heidi England literally had a hobby turn into a career. Her early training
took place at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. It was later she met and
studied with Jo Sonja Jansen in Conroe, Texas. Heidi relates, "It was here
that Jo Sonja introduced Folk Art into my life -- and I fell in love with
the art form and its history. This was 25 years ago! Jo has been my teacher
ever since. Heidi has also studied in Germany and at Vesterheim in Decorah,
Iowa. Travel teaching and teaching for the Society of Decorative Painters
gives Heidi a chance to share her love of painting with people from all over
our beautiful country as well as the world. She has taught in America, Canada,
Australia, France, and Japan. Heidi has four books on the subject of Folk Art.
She has shared her designs in the "Artist's Journal", "The Decorative Painter",
and "Paint Craft" of Japan. She has also developed a line of Pattern Packets.

Nancy called the business meeting to order at 10:12 am.
The Chapter has purchased a number of boxes for the members to paint for the Treasure Box Program.
Our July monthly paint-in will be set aside to paint the boxes. Glenda will be coordinator for
the month and she has ideas, patterns, etc for us. Members are asked to check out
one or more boxes. We would like to complete as many as possible. Glenda would like to have
40 done to take to the Shriner's hospital at the end of July. She already has a bunch done, but
we need to support her efforts. The boxes are for boys and girls ages 5 thru 17. Keep the painting
simple, but nice. We would also like to have a potluck lunch with the paint-in since there is
no 'instruction' being given. So plan on bringing you yummist dish.
Eileen talked to us about the May Cornicopia project. The surface has been delayed, so the paint-in
will be pushed back a week. Those present decided to go with a Saturday instead of Friday date,
so it will be May 17th at 10 am. There is prep that needs to be done and Eileen warned everyone not
to wait until the last minute. The filler needs to dry at least 3 days before sanding the pattern
area and tracing the pattern.
Cathy Jensen asked the members to consider teaching at the Senior Center. We only have teachers for
February, March and May. Cathy will be teaching in April. Eileen agreed to teach in June and Becky
said she would do November.
The April Seminar was discussed. The chests will be ready the first of April Tirzah reported. Any
outstanding class and surface balances will be due at that time. Trizah also reported that the Gesso
that Heidi used as primer now only comes in black and white. Traditions Primer can be used to
get the brown tone Heidi suggests for prep. You can also use Black or Raw Umber. Tirzah has also
ordered as much Red Earth as she has been able to find for the base coat.
Members were asked if any one else had an entry for our Logo contest. They are due today. Juanita
will be judging them.
Time was then turned over to Carol for the Card Box project.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 pm till our Spring Seminar April 17th-19th, 2008, at 8:00 am.
