Ogden, Utah February 2008

Hi Ladies,

        Happy Valentines Day to all.

I want to thank all of you that attended the January Paint-in. Juanita Denton’s watercolor was sure a hit. Thanks Juanita and we are all looking forward to your return this summer.

We have many events planned this year and your participation is what make this such a successful Chapter.

Tirzah Probasco is teaching her Lace Coaster set by Arlene Linton this month. If you haven’t signed up yet she still has wood left. She is teaching it on Saturday February 9th.

Our Heidi England Seminar is April 17th - 19th. The Chest she is teaching is very unique and is sure to be an heirloom. Please get signed up as soon as possible if you want the wood so that we have enough time to get it ordered. She is a wonderful teacher and a very sweet lady. You don’t want to miss this seminar.

Remember to work on the Golden Spike Logo. The winner will receive one free day class, with lunch, at the Nancy Baur seminar in September.

Just a reminder to those who need to pay their Chapter and National dues, we will need to see your National Card. Rebecca, our Membership Vice-President, will be checking with you.

We have so much to look forward to this year. I think it will be the best ever.

Just a note to wish Eileen a fast recovery from her surgery. Hope to see you soon Eileen.

        Happy painting.

        Nancy

Future Seminars and Paint-ins

The past several years the Chapter has brought in some outstanding national teachers; Gayle Oram, Rosemary West, Ginger Edwards, and Della Wetterman to name but a few. We have already scheduled Heidi England and Nancy Baur for 2008. Many of the teacher selections were based on suggestions from our members. Since many national teachers must be contracted one to two years in advance, the board needs to begin working on the 2009 and 2010 schedules now, and we would like input from you. Who would you like to have a seminar with and what kind of projects would you like to paint? Let the board know by e-mail, phone, or drop us a note.

April Heidi England Seminar

Heidi England literally had a hobby turn into a career. Her early training took place at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. It was later she met and studied with Jo Sonja Jansen in Conroe, Texas. Heidi relates, "It was here that Jo Sonja introduced Folk Art into my life -- and I fell in love with the art form and its history. This was 25 years ago! Jo has been my teacher ever since. Heidi has also studied in Germany and at Vesterheim in Decorah, Iowa. Travel teaching and teaching for the Society of Decorative Painters gives Heidi a chance to share her love of painting with people from all over our beautiful country as well as the world. She has taught in America, Canada, Australia, France, and Japan. Heidi has four books on the subject of Folk Art. She has shared her designs in the "Artist's Journal", "The Decorative Painter", and "Paint Craft" of Japan. She has also developed a line of Pattern Packets.

Happy Birthday

Member Mentions

Eileen B. had knee surgery in January and at last report was still in a lot of pain, but otherwise doing well.

Congratuations to several of our members who retired (from work) last fall. Now it's time to paint (and then do everything else you didn't have time to do while working).

Nancy called the business meeting to order at 10:27 am.

She talked about the Chapter's "LOGO" contest and referred everyone to the newsletter for the pattern. Juanita Denton has agreed to judge the entries so that everyone, board members included, can enter. The winner earns one day 'free' at the September seminar.

Then Nancy discussed the April Heidi England seminar. She urged everyone to sign up and pay the $50 deposit ASAP. If you want the Chapter to order you a chest, you will also need to pay a deposit of $50 for it. The chest will include all the hardware.

Nancy also remained all of us that we need to show our national SDP 2008 card to Rebecca Chaffee, Membership Vice President, as soon as we have it. Membership in national is a requirement for local chapter membership.

The meeting was adjourned at 3 pm till Saturday, February 9th, 2008, at 10:00 am.
